Default Water charges next year ?

Who will be billed for the incoming water charges next year in rental property. I wonder if it will be like the ESB ,that the bill can be changed into the tenants name. I certainly hope that it can, or will the relevant council just bill the landlord for handiness sake.

Surely has to be passed to tenant

It is a bill for a consumable just like electricity or gas.

Of course many tenants will look for a rent adjustment to compensate them

Still I used to have some tenants that seemed to live of lager and had little use for water for washing purposes so may not affect some tenants

But wasn't there some reference in the speech to a metering system? Hugely expensive to install... am willing to bet anything that landlords get hit for that. (Think it's time to lash an email off to NAMA asking if they'd be interested in taking over my properties!).

Think I read that to retro fit every house in the country would cost in excess of 1 billion or if your a FF politicain "a billon".

The cost of the water has to be levied on the tenant otherwise sure the taps would be left running 24/7,as previously pointed out the LL cannot be expected tp pay electricity, gas etc, this is a utility charge, simple as that.

Default water charges

yeah, why should I as a landlod pay for water consumed by tennants. There would also be no encouragement to conserve water while all others who pay would be doing their civic duty!

Dont. and dont even think of it either. its the tenants call!!!

45% of water is lost through ruptured pipes. Educate people to conserve water and plug the bloody holes. not rocket science..

NO it wont happen the easy option again just TAX people into submission.

They say Ireland is the only country that doesnt pay for water, yeah LOL Okay lets say it is paid for theres only two routes the great and imaginative powers that be would go for privitisation or public ownership both non starters as far as I concerned. Both a receipt for disaster and monopoly (Elec, monopoly on transport etc etc).

Default standing charges

If Water charges are introduced, there will be a standing charge. €370 is the current charge levied by the council in Letterkenny on comercial units rented.
If water charges are to be introduced, everybody should pay not just tenants in rented accomadation.
